A White Affinity Space to Grow
What is The Conversation?
Let’s be honest. People are experiencing a myriad of feelings about racial tensions in our country, and in our community. It is difficult sometimes to even find the words, let alone feel like it is safe to talk about. Many white people want to dismantle racism but are struggling with how to make an impact. It is more than just protests and yard signs.
With a focus on advancing racial equity and belonging, this 4-month facilitator-led, cohort-based program will utilize resources (articles, books, videos) to stimulate discussion. Participants will learn, share and grow in an environment where they may be challenged, but not judged.
We aspire to ensure diversity in many ways…except one: participants must identify as white. There are two reasons for this requirement:
- People of color are not responsible for dismantling racism and educating white people on how to be allies
- It is equally important for participants to be candid and transparent as we grow and learn
Consider participating if you:
- Wish to advance your journey of how to be anti-racist
- Can come to the table with an open mind and heart
- Will carry forward the knowledge gained to help create a culture of belonging
- Commit to following agreed-upon communication norms and ground rules
